Level Up Quickly.

Focus on leveling on ONE type of starter, main and dessert. Be open to trading so you can collect items required to level up your chosen specific meals. You will get more gourmet points when customers order dishes of higher level recipe.

Due to my preference of the seating arrangement above, I would add two or three tables for each cook I have. Remember that 1 chef can handle cooking for three tables efficiently. A waiter can serve 5-7 tables efficiently.

Time is Gold. Less moving waiter, he serve faster and efficiently, hence more money and faster levelling up.

Others tend to advice making barriers and maze to make customers make longer journey to reach their chairs and tables, this is an awful mistake. Again Time is Gold, the faster customer sit, the chef will immediately cook their order. Also if you are going to notice, customers that take longer enough before they reach the sit, they are also the one is shorter to wait for their dish, hence will immediately thumbs down because of slow serving of food or waiting for fee table. The time they spend on travelling to their sit decreases their time of waiting for their orders.
The best set up for tables, chairs and stove is the ISLAND set up. In this way, (time is gold again), waiter has better access between tables and stove. Every blocks that gap between stove and table is waste of time, hence waste of points/money and contributes to the thumbs down of customer.

Setting Up Dining Table near the Door. Well when they sit immediately, chefs can cook their orders immediately. Put 2 doors close enough to the center and the farthest chair of your restaurant.

You will have to make your own judgment by adjusting the number of tables, seating arrangement but as a rough* guide:
With 1 chef/cook, 1 waiter = 3 tables
With 2 cooks/chefs, 1 waiter = 6 tables
With 3 chefs/cooks, 1 waiter = 8 -9 tables
With 4 cooks/chefs, 2 waiters = 10 -12 tables, two drink fridge
With 4 cooks/chefs, 3 waiters = 10 -12 tables, two drink fridge
With 5 chefs/cooks, 3 waiters = 14 - 15 tables, two drink fridge

Go to the trading forum of Playfish site and try trading for ingredients and items that you want!
If possible, try to find someone who wishes to level up dishes completely different from yours (of which require different ingredients to yours) so you can trade and help each other to advance!
Want to tell your friends the items you need? Use your restaurant name to leave a message of ingredients you badly needed. It's a simple, clever and effective way of saying what you want!

Can't decide whether to bar the door or leave your restaurant run while you sleep? Just let it run anyway (after you've logged out of course).

Adding "temporary" friends may help you get more ingredients but please be aware that Facebook will shut your account down if you add too many friends within a short period of time.

RC Ingredient Best Sources - Dont Cheat

Ingredient Best Sources: Tips and Tricks

- Food quiz. Check this list of Food Quiz questions and correct answers. Please contribute.

- First friend visit. Make friends as many as possible.

- Set up another account. This is one best thing but beware, Facebook might shutdown your account if they see you have too many accounts. Who knows.

- Having other accounts, it doubles your chances of gaining the ingredients you want, plus easier to trade since you can accept trade ingredients immediately.

- Buy Ingredients. Focus first on leveling up your recipes rather than spending your money on decorating your restaurant. Just buy those things that you really need and buy ingredients on Ingredient Market when the ingredients you are looking for is on the sale. Its easier to level up and gain money now if you already max out your recipes.

- Playfish Cash. On latest Restaurant City update, you can now use your cash easier to gain ingredients. That's 8 PF cash per ingredients.

RC Sources of Thumbs Down and Remedies

Sources of Thumbs Down and Remedies: Here's what to do.

- Trash on your restaurant. Thumbs down from Unseen Trash. Sometimes you may miss trash because it's concealed by another object. Simply click the "Redecorate" or "Street View" button, then return to your restaurant. The trash will have shuffled around to a different random spot, and you should probably be able to see it!

- No Chairs. Lower thumbs from 'no chair' customers by setting up couple of arcade machines. If they find no available chair, they will spend playing few seconds on your arcade and they will leave without thumbds down. Two to three arcade machines are enough, placed close to the door.

- No table. Its on the matter of your tables set up. Keep the tables and stoves one block apart (island set up) so the waiter could serve foods immediately and clean up tables for new sitting customer.

Notes:

There is no Thumbs down, Money and Gourmet Points for having no toilets. Don't waste on of your employees for being a cleaner, make him chef or waiter to help on gaining money, points and thumbs up. Replace toilets with arcade machines.

Time is Gold. The faster the transactions, the better. Don't let your waiter spend too long walking just to serve customers, keep tables and stoves close enough. Don't let customers take too long to reach tables and chairs too, if they reach immediately, you can serve immediately and serve other customers immediately.

Important Tips and Reminders

Exploring your Restaurant. To scroll around your restaurant and its surroundings, click and hold onto your left mouse button inside the restaurant and drag or move it to the desire place of your restaurant.

Extra Money/Coin. You can shake trees (found around the restaurants) for money by clicking on them. So go around to your friends' place and shake their trees too.

Extra Money/coins and Points. Earn extra cash and GP (gourmet points) by clearing up your trash and trashes on other restaurants. To clear trash, click on it with your mouse.

Saving Money/Energy of your Employees. To avoid over-exhausting your employees when you leave the game for more than 3 hours, simply remove the door or place an item (such as a deco tree or mailbox) in front of your door. The place will be empty.

Leaving the Restaurant. Feed your workers so they have max health then 'save and quit' before you go to sleep or head out for >5 hours. When you load the game again, you should get an earning of 2000 coins. Your employees may be lying there exhausted but you can fix that with a sandwich (Please note that you MUST 'save and quit' FIRST. Do not let it run on your computer while you are gone.)

Food Quiz Tips. Missed out on an ingredient cause you didn't get the daily food quiz question right? Check the compilation of questions and correct answers for you!

Reaching 50 Popularity. You can distract the extra customers with arcade machines! They will play and then leave the restaurant without decreasing your popularity points. It is highly recommendable to have an arcade rather than toilets. You lose nothing when customers don't find toilets but you decreased the thumbs down (of customers our of chair) with arcade video game.

Toilets and Sinks. Apart from the arcade machine, sinks and toilets, the other decoration items are currently not interactive so spend your money wisely on items that you need.

Important Restaurant Tip:

Spending Money Wishly. Focus first on leveling up your recipes (focus first one recipe from Starter, Main, Deserts and Drink). Don't learn other recipe immediate because they will never effect much on your leveling. One level 10 recipe is better (will always give you 2.8 GP) against many levelled recipe which will only give you less gourmet points. Even when you learned how 2 dishes or more, still serve only one dish that have the highest level.

Another Important Restaurant City Tip.
Saving Money against Decorating your restaurant. I recommend to spend your money in buying important ingredients on Recipe Vendor rather than immediately decorating your restaurant. Once those ingredients you badly needed was vended, buy enough already to max out the level of your recipe. Besides, it is easier to gain money and decorate your restaurant once you levelling up so fast because of your max out recipes.

Waiter or Chef vs Cleaner. You will never get thumbs down for having no toilet, yes you will gain more thumbs up for toilets but not Gourmet Points and earnings. So your employee will be more effective if you put him/her as chef or waiter instead of a cleaner, this way, he/she is a big help on levelling. On other tip's reference, arcade machine is the solution for reaching 50 Popularity.

Clean Trick for Gaining More Ingredients. Make another account. With other account will gain more plus ingredients which ease enough gaining the ingredients you really need. When you let them both level up, you can exchange gift items and test more effective set up for your restaurants.

Thumbs down from Unseen Trash. Sometimes you may miss trash because it's concealed by another object. Simply click the "Redecorate" or "Street View" button, then return to your restaurant. The trash will have shuffled around to a different random spot, and you should probably be able to see it!

Efficient Employee Health. Try not to let the health of your workers go below 80% as their efficiency will decrease quite signficantly. In my case, even when my employees are about in 60% range of health, my restaurant is still capable of playing around 49 - 50 popularity, see this very effective restaurant layout.

Cleaning Toilets without a Cleaner. Got no cleaner to clean toilets? Or are they ignoring the dirty toilets? Redecorate your restaurant and remove/box in your toilets then put them back. Good as new! Much easier and faster than having a cleaner.
